The Chicago Plan Commission plays a crucial role in the city's development by reviewing and adopting community, land use, and industry-specific planning documents. Established in 1909, the commission consists of 23 members, including mayoral appointees made with City Council consent. It is responsible for the review of proposals involving Planned Developments (PDs), the Lakefront Protection Ordinance, Planned Manufacturing Districts (PMDs), Industrial Corridors

Completed Projects in Chicago -  Awards in 2025 - The Neighborhood Opportunity Fund (NOF) provides capital development grants up to $250,000 for small business and cultural projects located along West, Southwest, and South Side commercial corridors. NOF grants are provided as reimbursement for up to 75% of eligible project expenses with a maximum grant of $250,000 

Approved Projects in the City of Chicago -  The Department of Planning and Development (DPD) issues Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Qualifications (RFQs) and Applications (RFAs) to encourage the redevelopment of public land throughout Chicago, often in coordination with the Department of Housing (DOH) and other sister agencies.  

 New Development -  The “landmark” mixed-use venture in Oakland City will boost affordability and inclusion efforts in a part of Atlanta that’s rapidly evolving, according to the county’s economic development authority.  

DCP's Office of Housing & Community Development contributes to neighborhood revitalization by integrating targeted programs, outreach, and investment in neighborhood commercial areas. We partner with community organizations to identify how to invigorate underutilized business districts to become welcoming, attractive places for shoppers.
